Big Chief 50K Ultra Trail Run
Lake Tahoe Ultra Running
2026: A new and improved course.
The Big Chief 50K trail race features an epic course that combines single-track and fire-road trails set in the scenic forests between Lake Tahoe and Truckee. Runners will navigate through towering trees, enjoy breathtaking views, and conquer rocky summits throughout their journey. The course spans elevations between 6225 and 7500 feet, with an approximate elevation gain of 4500 feet during the race. The event begins and concludes in Tahoe City, CA. Runners will find support at five aid stations along the course, which offer water, electrolyte beverages, fruit, and salty snacks. Upon finishing, participants can look forward to cold beverages, including beer, recovery food, and a finisher medal. All participants will also receive a technical race shirt. The cutoff time for official finishers is 8.5 hours, but we strive to accommodate everyone who wishes to complete the race. Medical support will be available both on the course and at the finish line.
